My Story
Hello! I'm Michelle Sills, an interior designer with a passion for crafting spaces that not only look stunning but also resonate with the emotions of its occupants.
Born and raised in the Houston area, I've always had an affinity for interior design. Maybe it was the intricate patterns, the play of light, or how a room made me feel – I just knew it was my calling. After years of developing my understanding of design, I realized it was more than just creative finish palettes or DIY projects. It was about the way a space can make you feel, and the detail that goes into creating the symphony of design. My college search took me to the University of Texas at Arlington's Architecture School, where I obtained a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design. I was fortunate to begin my professional journey with HKS Architects, and it’s been a whirlwind of growth and discovery ever since.
However, my professional path isn't the only thing that defines me. In a constant quest to understand people and spaces better, I've found myself deeply intrigued by human behavior and environmental psychology. Striking a balance and finding the crossroads between these three disciplines has been an inspiring challenge.
Life outside my alma mater has been equally enlightening. Meeting my now-husband, welcoming our beautiful son into the world, and juggling a fulfilling career have been nothing short of magical. My dedication to the craft has led me to become NCIDQ Certified, WELL AP Certified, and a Registered Interior Designer in the state of Texas all within my son’s first year of life. My recent accolade, the Parson's Healthier Materials Certification, has sparked my ambition further to merge sustainable choices with human behavior insights.
When I'm not weaving stories and emotional impact into design, you will find me engaged in other creative endeavors. Whether it's knitting or crocheting, cooking, or penning down my thoughts, I thrive in the world of creation. A fun little tidbit about me? I once played the harp. While I may not have been a virtuoso, it instilled in me a sense of rigor and perseverance. It taught me that success isn't always about being the best but about never giving up.
My vision for the future is clear: I want to design a future where individuals find peace within themselves and their environment. Making sustainable choices shouldn’t be complicated, and I aspire to pave the way for everyone to understand and embrace them, all the while, still enjoying and basking in the beauty of designed space.
I am currently in the vibrant city of Chicago, away from my family for a brief period. This time has given me a unique life perspective and made my journaling endeavor even more meaningful. Every day is a reminder of the love I have for my family and the passions that drive me to help create a better world for them.
Sincerely, Michelle
